We realize how upsetting it may be to leave your pet when you travel out of town, especially if they are unwell or recovering from a treatment or surgery. We at Kleinpeter Veterinary Hospital want to put your mind at ease.

We offer full regular pet boarding services to all of our patients, as well as medical boarding services for dogs with problems that normal boarding facilities may not be able to handle.

Please let us know of any special requirements your pets may have. For example, separation anxiety, aggression towards unfamiliar animals, or extra time outdoors.

Pet Boarding: A Typical Day

Dogs

Each morning, the dogs venture outside to our outdoor run for fresh air before breakfast. While they are outside, their kennels are cleaned, disinfected, and stocked with fresh linens.

Depending on their physical capacity and ability, we walk the dogs who stay with us on a regular schedule. 

Your dog will also have supervision throughout their entire stay with us – both during walks and while they rest. In the evening, dinner is served, and then we have one last walk before bedtime.

Cats

Your cat will be fed according to your specifications and their requirements, to ensure their routine is the same as it is at home.

We offer a separate room for our feline visitors. We let each cat out into the room on their own to explore and climb the cat tower if they so want. They also have a huge window in their chamber so they can gaze out and talk at the birds that settle nearby.

Jenny, our resident cat, shares this room with them. She isn't usually out with them, but she enjoys sunbathing with other cats and kittens that come to visit.

Additionally, we refresh linens and clean your kitty's room daily. Our cat boarding area is separated from the dog area to ensure your kitty feels relaxed and safe while they stay with us.

Medical Boarding

Your pet will be supervised by our expert veterinarians and nurses, who will administer medications and watch over them closely. Any required medications will be administered to your pet on the same schedule they are used to at home.

  • What accommodations and amenities do you have?

    We've got everything your pet needs for a fun, recuperative, and safe stay, including the following accommodations and amenities:

    • Climate-controlled kennels
    • Comfy, cozy beds for each guest
    • Clean towels, blankets, and bowls
    • Individual space for each pet
    • A separate boarding area for cats

  • Is there a limit to the number of pets I can board at a time?

    We have a large facility and can accommodate several animals at once, provided you give us sufficient notice.

    Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to board family members (canine/canine or feline/feline) together.

  • How much does pet boarding cost?

    Boarding fees vary based on the duration of the stay, the size of the pet, and special medical requirements. That said, our pricing is affordable and competitive, and we welcome you to contact us for a quote.

  • What time should I drop off and pick up my pet?

    All pets must be dropped off or picked up during regular office hours. Reservations are recommended, especially for holidays and summer weekends. During these times, we recommend that you call 2-3 weeks in advance to increase the chance that a spot will be available.

  • What should I pack for my pet?

    Belongings: Every pet in boarding gets its own storage cubby! Bring a favorite toy, food, and treats for your pet. Please label your pet's stuff. Unfortunately, we cannot accept their bedding, blankets, or bowls since we have enough of our own for your pet to use while here. Keep these goods at home.

    Food: Please provide just the food and treats that your pet will require during their stay. We appreciate it if their meal is pre-measured and well labeled with directions. If you don't bring your pet's food, we'll gladly offer them Purina Veterinary Gastroenteric Diet in Chicken and Rice taste. This comes at no extra cost.

    Please note that we cannot feed raw diets at our clinic (raw chicken or beef)

    Medications: Make sure to bring any medications your pet needs. We recommend that medications be kept in their original containers, especially if they are from another veterinary facility so that we can identify what medications your pet is currently taking if we need to address any questions or concerns the staff may have while your pet is boarding with us.

    If medication has been moved to a second container, please provide us with a list of your pet's medication.

    Leashes: Please ensure to keep your pet on a leash when you come to drop them off. If you have forgotten or misplaced your leash, please ask to borrow one of our leashes. We value your pet's safety!

  • What if my pet needs to take medication?

    We will be glad to administer your pet's medications while they are with us.

  • Can I get updates about my pet during their stay?

    Yes, feel free to call us during your pet's stay for updates. If there is a problem, we will contact you via the emergency contact information you provide.

  • How should I prepare for my pet's stay?

    Each animal is different. To prepare for your pet's stay with us, we'll take the following steps to ensure that we can meet their unique needs.

    Step 1: Contact us to get started

    Call us to book, and to discuss details about your pet and your boarding needs. A member of our team will be happy to coordinate your booking.

    We highly advise you to book your pet's stay with us as soon as you know the dates you will or may need. Our boarding facility fills up rapidly, particularly around important holidays. We also ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel. For holidays and summer weekends, we usually have a waiting list. Thank you very much.

    Please note that, due to the nature of our accommodations, we do not accept unaltered dogs. Pets must be up to date with all vaccinations and free of fleas and ticks to stay at our facility.

    Step 2: Book a trial stay

    We want to be sure that we are a good fit for your pet before an extended stay. The trial stay consists of a full day of daycare where we can take the time to assess your pet's temperament and make sure they fit in with the pack.

    Step 3: Set your pet up for success

    On the day you drop your pet off with us, there are a few steps you can take to help reduce any stress your pet may feel.

    Spend some extra time with your pet beforehand, and make sure they get some vigorous exercise so that they are feeling calm. When you arrive at our facility, stay calm, cheerful, and confident during the separation.

  • Does my pet need to be vaccinated before boarding?

    Yes, your pet must be vaccinated to board with us.

    Dogs require the rabies vaccine (1-year or 3-year), the yearly DA2PL-Parvo-Corona (8n1) vaccine, the 6-month Bordetella vaccine, and the yearly canine influenza vaccine.

    Cats require the rabies vaccine (1-year or 3-year), the yearly FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis Calicivirus & Panleukopenia) vaccine, and the yearly Leukemia vaccine.

    If your pet's vaccines need to be updated, we can do it at our veterinary hospital. If a rabies vaccination is necessary, an exam must be performed by a veterinarian.
